STAR STRUCK!

Burgundy Buttons is pleased to be one of the final stops on the Star Struck Blog Tour.  Have you guys been Star Struck yet or what?

Here's a couple tidbits that Mrs Barbara shared with us on her tour:

What is your sewing room like?
It is a room that the children go through to get upstairs. This room also has the computer and piano in it. There is always a lot of activity going on around me, which I love. Yes, the quilts on the floor get walked over, pieces get flipped and turned, but it is nothing to cry about. Here is a picture of the walkway with a quilt in progress on the floor.

Do you do all your own quilting?
I do roughly 50%. I will free motion quilt on my Bernina 440, hand quilt it myself or pay someone to machine quilt on a long arm sewing machine or pay someone to hand quilt. It all depends upon the quilt and what it calls for.

And now for the prizes!
There are three prizes!

A lucky first place winner will receive  copy of Barbara's book Star Struck Quilts.  Learn to Mix and Match Blocks and Center Stars for up to 27 Different Quilts.  Create 9 shimmering star quilts to adorn the walls of your home .  Build your star-making skills-start out with simple patterns and move to more complex patterns as you learn.  Create delightful stars out of diamonds.  Create different designs by simply changing the color and/or size of the diamonds.  Learn to create perfect 8-point centers that lie flat.  Learn to take advantage of a fabric's design or motif with fussy cutting .

Second Place winners will receive a Pen Style Chaco Liner, Best Press Spray and Flower Head Pens.

And finally, at the end of the tour, 1 winner will receive this Fat Quarter Bundle from RJR and a 25.00 Gift Certificate from Patchwork Plus.  This winner will be forwarded to Barbara and announced on her blog.

To enter, leave a comment here at Burgundy Buttons and tell us about any experience or fears you have had with STAR quilts.  (admittedly, I have always been intimidated but am ready to take on the challenge).

Winners will be selected by a random number generator.  The first two will be posted here on September 2nd, and the last prize winner posted on Barbara's site shortly thereafter.  Make sure to leave us your contact info!

And don't forget to share a little Burgundy Love with these fine bloggers as well, not to mention leave comments on thier blogs for extra winning opportunities!

  5. That looks like a beautiful book! I haven't made a star quilt yet, but I have a wonky star quilt in the making right now, but usually points and I aren't the best of friends. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  6. They are one of my favorite blocks to make. I love the wonky star block by Silly BooDilly. I would like to make a more detailed and complex star block in the future and you have given me some ideas. Thanks!

  7. I've never done a star quilt but did one that had a block with some HST that made it look a bit like a star. Thanks for the chance to win.

  8. I tried a lone star once, when I was a "beginner"! I thought it was beautiful and seemed like it would work. Alas, no, it was a complete mess and I threw it away. I'm still not experienced enough to do it correctly (without tears!) so I'll just wait.

  9. I think stars are beautiful, but they intimidate the heck out of me! I did a little one, in a paper-piecing class. That was *just* enough. Unless maybe I am the lucky recipient of a book that walks me through it...! :)

  22. I like stars of all sorts. I really like patterns where the star is a big surprise and sort of hides among the other pieces-but once it comes into your vision, you can't ignore it. I'd love to have this book. I think every quilt should have a star someplace.

  23. hello burgundy buttons......enjoyed your site.....also the new tidbits from Barbara's book. I used to do mostly piecing, very elementary patterns, then turned to hand quilting. Presently, neither. ;( Hummm....now I'm looking eagerly at renewing a past hobbies.

  33. My very first quilt was a Morning Star--all cut out by hand, pieced by hand AND quilted by hand! (Lest you think I'm some kind of nut, I didn't have a sewing machine back then--that's when we used templates to trace around, etc) We've come A LONG way since then!! 78. My biggest fear of star quilts is it sticking up like a D-cup when you're done and no amount of ironing will make it lay flat!
They are beautiful quilts, though, when they behave and lay flat.

    ReplyDelete
  79. My fear of star quilts is that they will not be flat when they are finished.
